Terrible Game-Based Movie Review: Double Dragon
Hollywood and video game movie adaptations. Name a more terrible duo.
The year is 1994 and awful video game adaptations were the in-thing. Well, it was certainly a good year if you happened to love awful video game adaptations in Hollywood.
The movie game we’re going to put on blast this time around is based on the classic arcade beat-’em-up series — Double Dragon.
Double Dragon: Good Game, Bad Movie
The plot of the movie (and the game) is simple and straightforward enough. Two brothers fighting their way through hordes of henchmen in a dystopian future to finally come face to face with a maniacal villain. Cliché, but games back then didn’t have the substance that we’ve come to love today as shown by The Last of Us, Uncharted, and God of War to name a few.
For a movie coming out at the time, it certainly does sound good on paper. However, the actual story in the movie deviated far too much from the already-paper-thin narrative of the video games. Thus, it resulted in one of the year’s most horribly corny action-comedy (it wasn’t even marketed as a comedy film) affair.
At the helm of the two brothers, Scott Wolf and Mark Dacascos took the co-leads. Whereas, Alyssa Milano had an early-90s haircut. That’s all you need to know about this terrible video game-based movie.
